But how does our epoxy floor coating system work?

How Epoxy Floor Coating Works

SMT Concrete uses what’s known in the industry as a “flake” epoxy. There’s lots of technical details we could go into regarding the different types of epoxy, but as far as your home’s concrete is concerned, what makes flake epoxy floor coating your best option is the two-coat approach to protection.

The base coat is made up of 100% solid standard transparent epoxy, or PE-100 as it’s known in the industry. These epoxy floor coatings come in solid colors and require no solvents to apply. The color you choose will have some impact on the final appearance of whatever flake pattern you choose for the top layer, and the chemical and physical properties of this PE-100 epoxy form the basis for the added durability and protection that the full epoxy delivers your concrete.

The top coat is made up of polyaspartic high performance epoxy, or PP-S85 for short. This epoxy floor coating is 85% solid and forms the basis of the decorative side of the full epoxy coating, while also enhancing its total durability. PP-S85’s most important contribution to the full epoxy coating, however, is that it makes the full epoxy coating color stable, allowing it to be exposed to heavy sunlight without having its color change or fade. This is a feature that not all epoxy floor coatings have! When you choose SMT Concrete to apply epoxy floor coating in your home, you really are getting the best epoxy protection in the industry.
